I especially enjoy historical fiction. I don't think any guide book series covers all you want thoroughly and there's clearly a gap in the market here. For history it has to be the Blue Guide series but they're not so good on eating, drinking, don't look at shopping at all plus overlook many less well known villages even if they do hold treasures.
